BEACHES IN PACIFICA
Pacifica beaches have the unique rugged kind of Northern California beauty with its rocky cliffs that meet frothing shore break. If you’re wondering where play in the waves with your surfboard or with your kids (or even dogs), or sink your toes in the sand, here is a roundup of some of Pacifica’s best beaches.
1. MUSSEL ROCK BEACH
Mussel Rock Beach is a beautiful sandy and rugged stretch of coastline nestled at the Pacifica/Daly City line. It’s a quiet place that features coastal bluffs with sweeping scenic views of the Pacific Ocean, amazing sunsets and a serene place for reflection. If you’re feeling a bit adventurous, you can try your hands at hang gliding, that is, if you’re brave enough to jump off the area’s cliffs and soar into the coastal sky. Pretty amazing, huh?
2. PACIFICA PIER
Pacifica is home to one of the best fishing piers in the state, and that is Pacifica Pier. The quarter mile pier is an angler’s haven with its numerous and diverse fish species all year round. It is also the only place in Pacifica which allows crabbing for FREE.
To get to Pacifica Pier, Travel Highway 1 to Pacifica, take the Paloma Avenue/Francisco Boulevard exit, take Paloma west to Beach Boulevard, turn left and travel south to the pier.
There is no smoking allowed on the pier, beach or promenade.
3. ROCKAWAY BEACH
Rockaway Beach is a little sliver away from the rest of the highly attractive beaches in Pacifica but when Linda Mar gets crowded some surfers come here. It is located approximately 7 miles south of the city of San Francisco and is one of the cleanest beaches in the Bay Area to date.
Undertow and rip currents are common at Rockaway so it’s best to wear a life jacket or tag along a surf board if you want to dip in the sea. It’s also a pretty spot for a sunset. I would recommend a nice romantic walk if you decide to drop by the area.
4. LINDA MAR/PACIFICA STATE BEACH
A known spot to surfers and water sport enthusiasts, Pacifica State Beach is a crescent shaped beach located at the mouth of the San Pedro Valley in downtown Pacifica off State Route 1, in San Mateo County.
Pacifica State Beach offers a recreation trail along the ocean, surfing and surf camps, restrooms and showers and is very popular with dogs (dogs must be on leash).
