Surfing at Pacifica State Beach

​Pacifica is a very popular surfing destination. Most visitors go to the Pacifica State Beach, also known as the Linda Mar Beach. Beginners in surfing will definitely enjoy the beach at this time of year because it will be less crowded which will give any first-timer the space needed to surf! And if you are not the surfing type, then don’t fret! The beach is a great place for a nice swim with your family. The beach is also very clean and well-maintained. Facilities like showers and restrooms are available.You can also just lay back, enjoy the sand and watch those who come to surf.

Historical and Heritage Tours

​Pacifica is also home to rich a culture and past. The best places to go to experience the vibrant history of this place are Sanchez Adobe and Sam’s Castle.

The Sanchez Adobe is an historic site built in the 1840’s by Don Francisco Sanchez. The San Mateo County Historical Association currently manages the site and conducts tours on how the site was used by the Ohlones, Spanish, Mexicans and early Americans. The Sanchez Adobe also hosts the Annual Quilt Show. The show features historic quilts from the association's collection and new ones made by the Sanchez Adobe Docents and members of the Pacifica Quilters. The Sanchez Adobe also hosts the Annual Rancho Day Fiesta on the third saturday of September. Visitors get to experience what life was like on a rancho in Mexican California.

Sam’s Castle, on the other hand, was built in 1908 by Henry Harrison McClosky. The Pacifica Historical Society now owns the castle. If you want to go back in time and visit this magnificent castle, there is guided historical tour led by Bridget Oates, author of 'Sam's Castle'. You can enjoy the beautiful view while listening to stories about the events that took place in the castle like police raids, bones buried in the garden, and extravagant parties. But be warned! Some visitors have claimed that the castle’s mysterious nature makes it haunted. Be sure to bring your camera!

The 1.5 hour tour which includes light refreshments are $30/per guest and tickets are limited, so please reserve early. The next tour dates are on October 29, November 12 and December 9. All tours are at 12-1:30 P.M. or 2:30-4 P.M.

Fishing at Pacifica Pier

Pacifica is home to one of the best fishing piers in the state which is also a tourist favorite. If you are in the mood to enjoy the view of the waters and test out your fishing skills, then the Pacifica Pier is the place for you! No admission is charged and no fishing license is required at the Pacifica Municipal Pier.

The Pier is open daily from 4AM to 10PM. The pier closes during rough weather and sometimes for repairs.

Visiting the Coastside Farmers Market

If you are interested a healthier and more organic means to get food, the best place to go to is The Coastside Farmers Market. It features food from the local farmers, ranchers, fishermen and culinary artisans. Twice a week, the market showcases produce from several outstanding businesses. The Coastside Farmers Market also aims to give an opportunity for emerging local businesses to showcase what they have to offer.
