Pedro Point Surf Club - Riding a Wave of Community
Surfing has been the favorite pastime of many beach lovers, not only during the summer season but all year round. Professional surfers and newbies alike surf because it challenges them. It’s like walking on the waters. Others surf because they want to experience nature and sometimes give them the opportunity to interact with the marine animals. But to the Pedro Point Surf Club, it’s more than just surfing; it’s surfing with a mission. That’s what makes Pedro Point Surf Club different from all the other traditional surf clubs.
Pedro Point Surf Club is a one of kind surf club in San Francisco. It has one goal and that is to bring together surfers of different levels in order to promote ocean safety, conservation and love of all things beach and sea.
Over the years, since Pedro Point Surf Club was brought back to life in 1987 following its being dormant for 22 years it has been consistently focused on its mission. The club does not on focus on its surfers as a community. It also centralizes on ocean safety, marine life and conservation. Ocean safety capitalizes on surfers safety while they are out in the ocean. On the other hand, marine life and conservation center on teaching their members about the issues governing the marine biology.
Tagging themselves to be “much more of a community-based club”, Pedro Point Surf Club has dozens of programs like contests, beach clean-ups, fundraising events and Earth day to name a few.
Pedro Point Surf Club does not limit their members to professional surfers alone. In fact, all ocean lovers are welcome to join their group by just attending their club meetings and activities. And if your application is approved, you will finally be part of this unconventional closed-knit surf community.
